The Church Furniture Guy just returned from the National Association of Church Business Administrators‘ (NACBA) Conference, held this year at the Gaylord Palms Conference Center in Orlando, FL. I’ve always wanted to attend this conference as I’ve thought the resources it would provide would be very helpful to my own church ministry. I was not disappointed! The conference was outstanding and I hope I’ll be able to attend again over the coming years. Our world is changing fast and the implications for churches are numerous. The resources the NACBA provides are integral in assisting churches to navigate the coming years.

While at the conference, I had the opportunity to connect with several of the vendors at the trade show exhibit. I was surprised there were really no church furniture manufacturers or dealers displaying in the exhibit hall. I imagine the high cost of doing so (fees, travel, shipping, personnel, etc.) is the reason for this, but nonetheless I still expected there to be a few. There were numerous lending institutions and construction companies present, but no church furnishings booths.

I did enjoy connecting with my friends from Midwest Church Construction at their booth. I have worked with several church builders over the years, but Midwest is my favorite. If you have any sort of construction project being considered at your church, I would encourage you to be sure to take a look at Midwest. And for all your church furnishings, check out Save Your Church Money. These are two great companies to obtain quality products and services from for your church.

As I assist churches across the country with their church furnishing needs, I consistently find a need or “niche” for mid-market product lines. For lounge and reception furniture, I find I’m advancing Office Chairs Inc. in an increasing manner these days as such a solution. Here’s why:

Office Chairs Inc. was founded about four decades ago. From the beginning, their goal was to manufacturer quality products of great value with low lead times. Over those decades, their business has grown and they now have over 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Santa Fe Springs, CA. And like all Church Furniture Guy endorsed manufacturers, they stand behind all their products with the goal of 100% customer satisfaction.

Office Chair Inc.’s product line consists of Executive, Conference, Task, Reception, Guest and Soft Seating. They have relationships with some of leading fabric manufacturers such as Momentum Textiles, C.F. Stinson, and Culp . These relationships result in some of the shortest lead times in the industry for custom upholstered seating.

For today’s churches, Office Chair Inc. has positioned itself well as a mid-market manufacturer. Their entire line is available at great savings to churches through Save Your Church Money. Please be sure and contact SYCM for all of your church seating needs.

The Church Furniture Guy enjoyed the opportunity last week to connect with Derrick Jeror of Housetop Media. Derrick is the founder of Housetop Media (their launch took place just a few weeks ago). Housetop Media’s purpose is to help small to medium sized churches and church plants with technology solutions. I was immediately drawn to their extremely efficient business model that allows them to keep their business expenses very low. As a result they can serve churches in ways that other companies cannot, such as by offering free design consulting and system training.

Several years ago we started Save Your Church Money.com with a very similar set of core operating principles. The result has been the opportunity to save churches a tremendous amount of dollars on church furniture that has then been able to be funneled into ministry. As I dialogued with Derrick, and then later read through his entire website, I can easily envision him doing the same for the Kingdom in the years ahead. I’m looking forward to watching Housetop Media’s ministry develop!

Here in Ohio, it’s been a rainy Memorial Day. I found myself wondering about the origin of Memorial Day and while researching, I came across a great explanation and some superb insights from Kevin DeYoung. While I find it a breeze to write regularly about church furniture, writing an article like this one from Kevin is far more difficult. I appreciate him making it available.

Every Memorial Day I think about my Uncle Bud who died in World War II (European Theater). I never knew him as I was born 15 years after he gave his life for his country. Today I honor though his service, as our country honors the service of millions like him.

Since the stock market tumble in the fall of 2008, most church furnishings manufacturers have essentially frozen their pricing structures. The rocky U.S. economy of the past 18 month have led to some manufacturers even lowering their list prices overall. So as the mid-year point of 2010 approaches, the Church Furniture Guy carried out an informal survey of many of the leading church furniture manufacturers to determine if prices increases are in our immediate future.

The results? Only a couple of manufacturers reported their prices would increase mid-year, and then only on select items. The rest indicated they were prepared to carry their 2010 cost structure through the remainder of the calendar year. Some shared they do believe there’s a genuine need for increases, but recognize that doing so during these tough economic times would be difficult and even self-defeating. So the Church Furniture Guy believes pricing for the remainder of 2010 will be static for church furniture. That’s good news for churches!
